At 3pm on 11 April 1895 a group of Palmerston North citizens met at the residence of Mr L.A.Abraham. Mr R.S.Abraham moved “That a golf club be formed to be called the Manawatu Golf Club”. The motion was carried and the club was born. The first President was C.J.Monro and the first Secretary was L.A.Abraham.
It was a dramatic opening day (April 26) of the New Zealand Amateur Championship with both the men’s and women’s top seeds falling in the windy conditions of this afternoon.

Manawatu Players well represented in top 32 at Amateur
The Manawatu Golf Club has had five men and one women qualify for the top 32 of the New Zealand Amateur matchplay after two rounds of qualifying in tough conditions on their home course.
